Join Maytree for a half day of creative thinking, relationship building and professional development at the 2008 Maytree Foundation Leadership Conference. This year's theme is 'belonging' and its impact on the wellbeing of individuals and communities. By investigating issues such as citizenship, identity and multiculturalism participants will reflect on ways to enable disenfranchised groups to participate, engage and make their voice heard. Wednesday May 7, May 14 and May 21, 2008 - Power Plays: Queer and Trans Youth Resist Hate @ Griffin Centre A FREE Self Defense Course for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual, Transgender, Two-Spirit, Intersex, Queer or Questioning youth under 30. Scared of walking down the street because of violence due to being LGBTT2IQQ? Tired of people harassing you? Want to feel safer? Then come and learn self-defense with other queer and trans youth! Participants in this free introductory three-day workshop will learn how to be aware of dangerous situations, how to get out of them and some basic physical moves. Wednesday May 14, 2008- Grassroots Fundraising for Social Change: Training for Grassroots Community Organizations @ Centre for Social Innovation. A partnership of the United Way of Greater Toronto, Centre for Social Innovation and OCASI, featuring guest speaker Kim Klein

Building a broad base of individual donors gives you financial security and political clout, and it is possible for any organization to create an individual donor program. This interactive session is open to staff and volunteers of community organizations, and will provide an overview of fundamental techniques and tools used in fundraising for social change.

Kim Klein has worked in all aspects of fundraising; as staff, as a volunteer, as a board member, and as a consultant. She is best known for adapting traditional fundraising techniques, particularly major donor campaigns, to the needs of organizations with small budgets working for social justice.
